# Manage loan labels

Loan labels are tags that your company creates to categorize and track loans — for example, for analytics, collections strategies, or internal workflows. The Loan Labels tool lets you add or remove labels on a loan. Labels are never visible to borrowers.

**Required permissions:** `loan.label:list`
**Loan status:** No restriction
**Loan types:** All

## Before you begin

- Loan labels are created in the Admin Portal. If the label you need does not exist, ask your administrator to create it. See the Admin Portal documentation for details.
- Labels assigned to a loan are displayed at the top of the loan detail page as well as within this tool.


## Add a label to a loan

1. From the agent-view Borrower Portal, open the loan and select **Loan options** > **Loan labels**.
2. The form displays a checkable list of all available loan labels. Labels already assigned to the loan are checked.
3. Select the checkbox next to the label you want to add.


The label is added to the loan immediately.

## Remove a label from a loan

1. From the loan labels tool, find the label you want to remove.
2. Clear the checkbox next to the label.


The label is removed from the loan immediately.
